Artificial intelligence has shown promise since the nineteen fifties with an exciting potential for human and computer interaction. Since it’s invention, technology invention has meandered in such a way to produce and popularly circulate the conversational AI. The first conversational AI chatbot, ELIZA was released in 1966 but has more recently been brought mainstream by companies such as Facebook and Amazon in the later 2010s. I am interested in the forces that most prevalently utilize conversational AI and how this informs our every day lives. The two most common uses for conversational AI over the past decade are healthcare and commerce, or business. Therefore, I have segmented my research into these categories. Additionally, I’ve created space for ideas about the concept in the discourse community and throughout the ways we interact with eachother. This is so I could gather rhetorical choices made outside the disciplines and get a general reading of the content.
